Here are some places where you can find me.

Surviving the Next Step: Stories of Finding Our Own Paths
June 9-11, 2017 at Pub 626 in Chicago, 7pm.
We can live our lives how everyone else always has, following their well-tread footsteps, or we can carve out new paths to unknown destinations. Join us this June as we celebrate moments of staying true to our own course and finding peace at the other end.

Val Emmich, author of "The Reminders" in conversation with Paula Carter
June 11, 2017 from noon to 1pm, Printer's Row Lit Fest, Jones College Prep/4030.
Writer-singer-songwriter Val Emmich played Liz Lemon’s coffee-boy fling in “30 Rock.”  His charming debut novel, “The Reminders,” focuses on a grieving man and his unlikely relationship with a 10-year-old girl. Emmich will appear in conversation with Paula Carter, whose own essay collection, “No Relation,” is forthcoming this autumn.

How a Flash Essay is like a Baby Elephant: Translating the Big Moments into Small Spaces, August 17, 2017, 10am-11:30am, Northwestern University Summer Writers’ Conference. Join me as I teach a session on the flash essay. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the history of the flash essay, read masters of the form, and start writing our own flash pieces. Also check out the other amazing sessions that are a part of this conference!

No Relation, Book Launch and Reading, November 17, 2017, 7pm, Women & Children First Bookstore, 5233 N Clark St, Chicago. There will be words read aloud, fun people (that's you) and wine. Basically a party for the book.
